Review: Aston Hotel, Pontianak

How to reach Aston Hotel Pontianak:

Gajahmada Road is a crowded vicinity. If you are heading to Aston Hotel, Pontianak from the infamous St. Joseph Cathedral of Pontianak, you’ll find a white tall gate on your left side on Gajahmada Road. Turn left and Aston Hotel, Pontianak would be on your left side.

Stayed in Aston Hotel, Pontianak in:

September 2018.

My stay roomrate in Aston Hotel, Pontianak:

Remunerated.

The stay:

Aston Hotel, Pontianak was one of luxury hotel pioneer in Pontianak. I was expecting a satisfying service, starting from the welcoming, to the breakfast. Here’s how my room looked like:

I compare this stay to the one before in Aston Hotel, Kupang as they were managed by the same group. I wondered whether they would serve different traits and of course, breakfast menu!

As I always say in every hotel review: we define a hotel by its breakfast.

The breakfast:

I found Aston Hotel, Pontianak’s breakfast fascinating! They provide a wide variety of menu, as well some local menu which are difficult to resist. They came with expected taste too.

Spacious restaurant, both indoor and outdoor part equipped with adequate table. To be honest, Aston Hotel, Pontianak got me on the coffee corner. They served the Kopi Pancong and Teh Tarik as one staff is on guard to prepare these traditional beverage you rarely find in other hotel.

Pros:

  • Aston Hotel, Pontianak has a great location. I bet the locals has acknowledge the hotel well. Two minutes by foot and you will reach hawkers, a lot of them along the Gajahmada Road which are available till midnight.
  • You are staying at Aston Hotel, Pontianak and won’t get bored to the breakfast menu, at least when you let yourself hold the curiosity to try all variants each day. Go slowly for western, Indonesian menu, and the pastry.

Cons:

  • Aston Hotel, Pontianak gave me a room with balcony. I didn’t know if all rooms are designed in the way. The problem is, my balcony was filthy. I found a cigarette box just left on the balcony floor. The road-view side would not serve as a good reason not to clean the balcony part daily. That’s where the room slipper took part. (If you had some hygiene problem, don’t even dare to enjoy youself at the balcony, just use your footwear if you want to keep the room slipper).

The verdict:

Pontianak is a home to Peranakan culinary. Some colleagues do not want to spoil their morning chance just to ‘have the breakfast at hotel’. If you are coming for business, Aston Hotel, Pontianak is suitable so you may rest well in the heart of Pontianak city.

of 100 for the hotel!
